The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (VAHCS) is seeking outstanding physicians who are BC/BE in internal medicine or family medicine to provide outpatient primary care to our nation's Veterans. There is no call and panel sizes are fixed. Providers will have 20% protected administrative time. In addition to outpatient care, internists will have the opportunity to serve for 4-8 weeks per year as a teaching attending on an inpatient medicine team comprised of residents and medical students. Qualified candidates will also receive an academic appointment at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

In addition to a competitive salary, the successful candidate will be eligible for 26 days of vacation per year, sick time, a retirement package consisting of a federal pension and a 401(g), as well as numerous other fringe benefits. You may also be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program.

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience:

  • Board Eligible/Certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Internist are especially encouraged to apply.
